Tenacious D: Rize Of The Fenix

Tenacious D, el dúo rockero humorí­stico formado por los actores y músicos Jack Black y Kyle Gass, lanzaban el pasado 2012 su tercer álbum, Rize of the Fenix, seis años después de The Pick of Destiny, el disco, banda sonora y pelí­cula del mismo nombre que ambos protagonizaron.

La de Tenacious D es una discografí­a escueta pero muy potente, caracterizada por la sátira y la comicidad irreverente que preside los contenidos de sus letras, mientras que no cesan de juguetear con el sonido y los clichés musicales de bandas de heavy metal tipo Iron Maiden o Judas Priest.

Rize Of The Fenix recibió en general una acogida favorable por parte de los crí­ticos de la música al ser un material estrechamente ligado a la filosofí­a del grupo y probablemente menos «burdo» que en ocasiones anteriores. ¿Han madurado este par de chicos grandes y revoltosos? Espero que no; en cualquier caso emplean sus viejos trucos, ajenos a si el mundo realmente se preocupa por sus travesuras. Eso sí­, la producción musical resalta por su gran calidad.

La canción estrella es la que da tí­tulo al álbum, poderosa, ágil y un perfecto homenaje al rock duro, algo que saben hacer muy bien. Como es habitual en los Tenacious, con múltiples referencias y burla continua y al mismo tiempo conocimiento y respeto por el sonido del rock clásico, como siempre hicieron. Los magní­ficos registros de voz por parte de Jack encajan a la perfección con esa gran capacidad acústica que demuestra Gass.

Tras el fracaso comercial de The Pick of Destiny (La púa del destino), pelí­cula que sin embargo recomiendo, Tenacious D regresaron para vengarse y patear el culo a quienes la vilipendiaron. De ahí­ la letra y el desarrollo del videoclip mostrando una batalla contra los mencionados crí­ticos en medio de explosiones y efectos especiales.

No lo puedo remediar, siempre me han gustado las comedias de Jack Black, incluso las malas. Pero además está Kyle, con esa pinta tan sumamente adorable. Son mis barrigones preferidos, dos personajes únicos para un video friki, divertido y con profusión de efectos.
